FAQ

THERAPY

What is trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy is a type of therapy that helps you understand and work through the impact of past traumatic experiences on your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. At Anel Lee & Associates, we use evidence-based approaches including trauma-focused therapy, CBT, and mindfulness-based interventions to help clients heal at the root level — not just manage symptoms.

Do you offer therapy in Spanish?

Yes. Anel Lee provides therapy in both English and Spanish. We understand how important it is to be able to express yourself fully in your own language, especially when doing deep emotional work.

Do you offer online therapy in California?

Yes. We offer virtual therapy sessions for clients located in California. Online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy and allows you to access support from the comfort of your own space.

How do I know if I need therapy?

If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or like you keep repeating the same patterns no matter what you try, therapy may be a good fit. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many clients come to us simply knowing that something needs to shift — even if they cannot fully name what it is yet.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy depends on your goals, your history, and the pace that feels right for you. Some clients see meaningful shifts in a few months, while others choose to continue longer for deeper work. We will talk about what makes sense for you from the very beginning and reassess as you grow.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We currently accept Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Carelon, CalVCB, and Quest. If you are unsure whether your plan is covered, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly or reaching out to us, and we will do our best to help.

THE INTENSIVE

What is a therapy intensive?

A therapy intensive is a condensed, deep-dive experience that is different from traditional weekly therapy. Rather than spreading work out over months, an intensive allows you to go straight to the root of what is keeping you stuck in a focused, immersive format. At Anel Lee & Associates, The Intensive is conducted over 3 to 4 sessions of 4 to 6 hours each.

How is an intensive different from regular therapy?

Regular therapy builds gradually over time and is ideal for ongoing support. The Intensive is designed for clients who are ready to go deep quickly — breaking down recurring patterns, exploring what lies beneath the surface, and creating a real shift in how they see themselves. It is more direct, more immersive, and moves at a faster pace.

Who is a good candidate for a therapy intensive?

The Intensive is for clients who are tired of repeating the same patterns, aware that something deeper is going on, and ready to face it. All Intensive clients are screened prior to booking to ensure it is the right fit. It is available virtually and with limited in-person availability.

GENERAL

How does trauma affect daily life?

Trauma can show up in many ways — difficulty trusting others, feeling disconnected from yourself, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or repeating patterns in relationships and work. Many people do not realize that what they are experiencing is connected to past trauma. Therapy can help you make that connection and begin to heal.

What is CBT therapy?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that helps you identify and shift the thought patterns that are contributing to how you feel and behave. It is one of the most well-researched forms of therapy and is particularly effective for anxiety, depression, and trauma.

What is DBT therapy?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based approach that focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthy communication. It is especially helpful for clients who experience intense emotions or find it difficult to manage stress and relationships.

What is trauma-informed therapy?

Trauma-informed therapy means that every aspect of the therapeutic relationship — how we communicate, how we set goals, how we pace the work — takes into account the impact of trauma. It is not a single technique but an approach that prioritizes safety, trust, and your sense of control throughout the process.

What is the R.I.S.E. Framework?

The R.I.S.E. Framework is Anel Lee's signature approach to healing and purposeful living. It guides clients from surviving to rising — and is woven throughout her therapy work, intensives, speaking engagements, and her book, Choosing Myself Over the Lies.

Can therapy help with anxiety and depression?

Yes. Anxiety and depression are two of the most common reasons people seek therapy, and both respond well to evidence-based treatment. At Anel Lee & Associates, we work with clients experiencing anxiety and depression by addressing not just the symptoms, but what is driving them underneath.
