MY STORY

Ten years ago, I was in the same place where you probably are.

I was reluctant to try therapy, because of all of the stigmas that surround mental health. “Therapy doesn’t work.” “You’re weak if you ask for help or support.” “You just have to suck it up and be tough.” Especially if you’re a Latina like me, or other person of color, you’ve probably heard it all before.

But after my own personal trauma, I realized that what I’d been doing wasn’t working and that I needed to make a change. And so I began my own healing journey, and became passionate about helping other trauma survivors to recognize that they have the ability to change their own lives. Our own caregivers usually teach us as best as they knew how, and don’t always give us the tools we need to manage our lives today. Therapy can help fill that gap.

MY TRAINING

I received my Master’s degree in Social Work from Walden University, and am currently enrolled in the doctoral program in Community Care and Counseling at Liberty University. I am focused on learning as much as I can about trauma-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions. I’m licensed to practice therapy in the state of California and Virginia, which I provide in both English and Spanish (a credit to my heritage as a second-generation Mexican-American.)

I specialize as a trauma therapist, which means that I work with a diverse range of clients who are survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, childhood abuse, and other traumatic experiences. I also work as a coach, and in community mental health where I provide crisis intervention. I’m proud to be a certified Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Advocate.
